Take a Leap

Rudolph A. Marcus, Ph.D, Nobel Prize winner
Nobel Prize winner Rudolph A. Marcus, Ph.D (1992) once said,
“Be willing to take a leap.  It’s been my experience that you often have to go onto uncertain ground – it’s not easy, but you cover a lot more territory that way and might even , to your surprise, uncover something new.”
Marcus makes an astute point in his statement – the discovery of something new requires boldness and daring.  Too often we think of the unknown as too risky, calculating where we are at the moment with where we’ve been and anticipating what we might or might not lose in a move.   I shudder to think where we might be if it weren’t for those that dared think out of the box in the world of medicine, technology, space exploration or even, for that matter, philanthropy.  The American dream was built on visionaries who saw not an obstacle, but an opportunity, and embraced the challenges knowing the odds stacked against them.  They swam against the tide of conventional wisdom.

In subsequent blog posts, you will have the opportunity to learn about visionaries of today, busily opening the door of possibilities where opportunity knocks.  These are contemporaries with real stories of daring, making a difference in the lives of people they may or may not know.  Our goal is to shorten the degree of separation between you and their very real story by personally interfacing with our subject and retelling their account.  These are actual people serving in unique experiences both domestically and around the world.  We hope you’ll be inspired as you connect with their stories.

Stay tuned ...
