Mum's The Word

Mom and her boys
Our household is an adoption home.  We became forever parents to both of our boys as they were babies, respectively.  And the road to completing our family had as much excitement, anxiety, bumps and celebrations as though we had had our children biologically.  We suffered loss and we waited expectantly. We made plans and we had plans changed.  My wife, Mom, had her own version of pregnancy pains that included nausea.  And I paced the floor of a couple of hospital waiting rooms.  Mother's Day - our first - was amazing.  As has been our Mother's Day for the past 16 years.

This holiday has less to do with having children than remembering all the Mothers around us - those who have had their own biological kids and those who have forever families through adoption.  It's the foster moms as much as the friends who have mothered our children when we needed that extra help.  It's our grandmothers, our aunts, our sisters who have been instrumental in encouraging our kids or the kids on the baseball team.  And it is those expecting moms who have begun the journey in full anticipation of the joy they will soon birth.

To all those who carry the incredible responsibility of Mom, I say a heartfelt Thank You!  And I hope you'll join me in acknowledging the Moms in your life.  Here's to you, Mom!
