The Big Four-Ooooooooh

As a kid (think 18) I remember believing that 40 was just plain old.  When you turn 40, all childhood, fun, and reasonable physical activity had ended and you might as well start selecting your walker and complaining about "the kids these days".  I was convinced.  I was also sure that 40 was so far away that I'd never get there.  It seemed like a life time away.

Ahhhhhhh yeaaahhhhhh.  Sweet taxidermy.
Well, I was right about a few things:  (1) it was a life time away and (2) what IS with the kids these days with the saggy pants, the scraggly hair and the incessant video games?  Don't they know that parachute pants and Z-Cavarriccis (topped off with a sweet Member's Only jacket) would be so much cooler?

The part I was wrong about was life being "over".  Quite the contrary.  I finally have enough experience, wisdom, maturity (hold your comments) and confidence to go after what I want.  What's even cooler ... I have 40+ years to live life as I am now.  No absolute dependence on anyone, no awkward years, no school, no curfew, and no stressing out about girls and if I'm cool or not.  For the record - I'm not.  But I'm very cool with that.

Turning 40 is not a curse.  It's an accomplishment and a privilege.  I hope to do with my next 40 years what God put me here to do, now that He's prepared me.  That's part of what HowGiving is all about.  Doing something admirable, impactful (I know that's not a real word) and memorable with my life.  Something that shows my kids what can be if they put their minds and efforts to it.

Now - off to the mall to buy a new pair of Cavariccis that fit me.  For some reason, my old pair have shrunk ... considerably.
